The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum and research complex — includes 19 museums and galleries and the National Zoological Park.
Smithsonian Museums on and Near the National Mall and the National Zoo are free and open daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The American Art Museum and Portrait Gallery are open 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tips for visiting
Make the Smithsonian Information Center in the Castle your first stop. Open daily 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., 1.5 hours earlier than the museums. Plan your visit; enjoy the Castle Café and free Wi-Fi.
